The Tomaru pen
The Tomaru is the second Matome original design. We wanted to create a full-sized writing instrument with excellent ergonomics, graceful curvature, and a practical design, housing a size-6 Jowo nib and able to accommodate a Schmidt K5 converter - and maintained our signature posting mechanism.

A full-sized pen is a delight to use, and here at Matome we think that you should always be able to post the cap on the barrel to keep better track of it. The most common method for this is a friction-fit, but we prefer threads because they are more secure and won’t leave scuff marks on the barrel of the pen. We wanted to use a design similar to the Ikimasho pocket pen, put posting the cap that far back would create a pen a bit too long to use while posted.
So we took the principle and shifted it - The threading is closer to the end of the barrel, and closer to the tip of the cap on the inside. Combined with a slender barrel, this means you can post your pen deeply and securely every time, with threads that self-center and you won’t scuff your barrel over time.
All Matome pens are crated one by one in our workshop - from the casting of resin to the turning of the pen, to final inspection, polish, and tuning of the nib, be assured that we have checked and double-checked every step of the creation. The Tomaru is a premium writing instrument and the care we take in its making is a reflection of that.
